Orito Ring – 15mm P

The Orito Ring is one of our most intricate pieces. The exterior is adorned with meticulously handcrafted filaments and small spheres of varying sizes and positions, while the interior features the distinctive ‘S’ shaped spirals engraved within. This uniquely crafted ring serves as a statement piece, with each one possessing subtle variations, ensuring that no two are ever identical.

S”-shaped spirals, intertwined metal filaments, and small spheres of different sizes are the most typical elements of traditional jewelry from the Indonesian archipelago. Huge silver bracelets—only rarely gold ones—were worn by the Tetum men and women who lived in Indonesian West Timor.

The Tetum used their jewelry as body adornment, but also as artifacts and even musical instruments at special festivities. When members of Magellan’s fleet, sent to investigate rumors of vast gold mines, visited Timor in 1505, the island was already a part of a growing international trade network and a key source of sandalwood for China.

In Bali, the jewelry is elaborated in smaller sizes. Designs with a hundred different patterns are composed. Being specialists in applying little spheres and fine wires by hand, these silver and gold rings became classics among Balinese jewelry.
