Description
In South India, the leaves of the date palm were traditionally rolled into small cylinders and gently inserted into the earlobe. Over time, and through contact with moisture, the leaves expanded, allowing the opening to increase gradually and naturally until the desired size was achieved. This slow and respectful process reflected a deep understanding of the body and its rhythms.
Elongated earlobes became a powerful symbol of beauty, wealth, and social status. The larger the form, the greater its significance. Beyond aesthetics, Ancient Oriental Medicine regarded the ear as a microcosm of the human body, a map where balance and wellbeing could be influenced through specific points and pressure.
This bracelet is inspired by those ancestral practices and beliefs. Reinterpreted through contemporary design, it pays tribute to traditional South Indian craftsmanship and cultural exchange, translating ancient symbolism into a wearable object. A handcrafted piece that speaks of time, ritual, and the enduring dialogue between body, spirit, and ornament.
