Spiral Pink Tourmalines Silver Earrings. Inspired in traditional jewellery, designed and handmade by eThnoPur artisans in Bali workshop. We aim to support local artisans and to keep traditional techniques alive.
Inspiration: The soul is about to leave the body, say people from the Mountain Tribes when somebody falls ill. Silver as a powerful amulet against misfortune is believed to counteract this process, to heal the illness and prevent the soul from leaving the body. When mountain people are admitted to a hospital, they therefore refuse to get rid of their jewellery. Silver adornments are also placed on children immediately after birth. However, the high cost of silver makes it difficult for most farmer families to purchase it. Moreover, the huge proportions of many adornments are difficult to craft in silver. Double-ending spirals and s-shaped ornaments, which inspired this collection, may reach 20 centimetres in length and weigh up to 400 grams. They are worn in pairs, fastened to the back of a coat by means of a belt and joined to one another by a knob linking their centres.
