Emeralds Ethiopian Cross handmade in silver with gold details and 20 setted emeralds. This piece is completely articulated and can be worn both sides.
Life in the mountain highlands of Ethiopia is austere, often harsh. Furthermore, Coptic Christians traditionally hold 160 days of fasting. Through adversities, their faith has been strong. Its symbol, the cross, is one of the most estimated objects. Nowhere else do we encounter a variety as rich as in this country.
The Ethiopian Crosses are made with great skill and dedication. Silver is the most common material. Some of the smaller crosses have been cut directly from Maria Theresia silver coins. Bigger pieces are made using the lost wax method: The original design, carefully carved in wax, is being lost during the process. The final piece, cast in silver, is an exact reproduction of the original design in wax.
